Maria, thank you for taking the time to write a guest post while I am on vacation. I appreciate you sharing your story with my readers! XOXO~ Anne

Diets Suck.

They just do. I dare you to find one person who thinks otherwise. Craptastic is a word that I think sums them up quite nicely. Unfortunately, this is not the first time in my life that I’ve had to go on a diet. I’ve tried many, from the obscenely low calorie to the more sensible, but over time, I always reverted back to my old habits. I think a major reason for this was that I never incorporated an exercise routine as well. Oh, did I forget to mention:

Exercise sucks the big one too.

I haven’t decided which I dislike more, but I will let you know when I do.

Anyway, so as you may know, I entered a “contest” to become the Mamavation Mom, and I actually won. I won? Well, how the hell did that happen? I have no idea would be the best answer. I suppose I’m proof that harassing people enough really gets results. So now, I’m looking for different results – the ones that really need to happen for me to get my old self back; because frankly, my old self really hates my new self. Why?

* Old self misses shopping
* Old self misses socializing
* Old self misses being super smiley
* Old self really, really misses shopping (did I say that already?)

Now, I’m trying out a new approach with thanks to the Bookieboo team and Mamavation – a balanced diet and regular exercise. It’s going well so far and I hope it continues to. But, I’ll be honest, I still hate the exercise. People keep telling me that I will learn to love it – not sure why these people insist on lying to me. Why does exercise suck you ask (do you really need to ask?)

* Exercise requires you to actually move your fat ass off the couch.
* Exercise makes you sweaty.
* Exercise makes you feel all your jigglies move – nothing worse.
* Exercise is NOT FUN.

And yet, I’m doing it. I’m trying to do it everyday, and minus a couple of blips here and there, I have. For a hater – this is a huge accomplishment in itself.

So what am I missing then? There are a few things:

* Diet Coke – Mommy misses you D.C.
* Starbucks – If their stock value goes down, you’ll know why.
* White Bread
* PASTA – damn you pasta for not being categorized as a vegetable
* CAKE, Cookies, Chocolate … you know, the GOOD stuff.

I sound like a big baby, don’t I? I guess it’s the sucky characteristics of trying to be healthy that’s rubbing off on me. So forgive me, I promise that by the end of this process, I will be the BIGGEST cheerleader of diet and exercise. Actually, that’s probably unlikely to happen too. Do you know why? Because even when I get to my goal weight, the fact will remain – diets suck, and nothing is ever going to change that.
